For our organic post shave balm, we mixed a botanical olive oil infusion of dandelion, hops, nettle and sage with sunflower oil and unrefined shea butter.

These ingredients all have specific qualities that support the healing of damaged skin. What's more, they also give this balm a great scent that matches this skin-restoring quality ;)

Additionally, shea butter and sunflower oil will provide deep moisturisation plus replenish the fatty acids essential to maintain a healthy skin.

With this balm to soothe your skin, you should see a reduction of redness and bumps, with a soft and smooth skin as a result.

Tip: consider using a light oil like our beard oil or our face oil on your skin prior to shaving. It will make the change even more noticeable.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Olive oil has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin. As it has a high level of vitamin E, using it to treat damaged skin or after shaving can help with healing.

Although this oil has many benefits, it is a relatively heavy oil and should be used sparingly, with common sense. Constant use, or excessive use of this oil could potentially lead to dryness or blackheads. For this reason, we only use this oil as an ingredient in our remedial products and shaving balms, where use is occasional and these effects are unlikely.

Unrefined Shea Butter

Our organic unrefined shea butter is one of our favourite ingredients. It doesn't clog pores and is suitable for nearly any skin type. It's a brilliant moisturiser, replenishing the lipids in your skin and restoring your skin barrier.

It absorbs fast and keeps your skin well hydrated. It helps to boost collagen, promote regeneration of the cells, and its anti-inflammatory properties can help with conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Although it's a tree nut product, it's extremely low in the proteins that cause allergic reaction and it's considered safe for people who suffer from tree nut allergies.

Sunflower Seed Oil

As the name suggests, sunflower seed oil is extracted from the seeds. It is an oil suitable for all skin types, that is high in vitamin E. In fact, when we add vitamin E to our products (to use as a natural preservative) it is really a highly concentrated and filtered sunflower oil.

It is also a noncomedogenic oil, meaning it won't clog pores and will absorb quickly. It could help protect against UV damage, premature ageing and the forming of wrinkles. It's high in linoleic acid, which helps to maintain the skin's natural barrier, keeping it hydrated. Scientific study found that it's effective at improving hydration and maintaining the integrity of the outer layer of the skin.

Linoleic acid also makes this oil effective in protecting against bacteria, as well as inflammation. Where its oleic acids could be beneficial in supporting wound healing.

As sunflower oil is a seed oil, we do recommended that you have a scratch test done by a health professional, if you have any type of seed or nut allergy.

Dandelion Flower, Leaf & Stem

For many of us, the humble dandelion is not a welcome guest in the garden (we love it, though!). But there is so much more to this little flowering plant whose name comes from the French for 'lion's tooth'.

A European native that has spread around the world, dandelion is a detoxifying herb that has powerful applications which have given it a lot of respect in traditional medicine.

The nutrient contents of this plant are impressive, being a good source of vitamins A, C & K, as well as E and B vitamins. Furthermore it boasts a number of minerals, including magnesium and potassium. Its potent antioxidants and polyphenols can help reduce inflammation, boosting the health of your skin, scalp and hair.

Hop Seed Cones

It is of course a well-known fact hops are a source for good Friday evenings with your mates. That it can also make you look great, is a less known benefit of this flowering plant.

Hops are the seed cones of the common hop, a member of the hemp family. It's been used for treating dandruff and other dry scalp conditions and some studies suggest it could work against hair loss.

It has antibacterial and antioxidant properties which are helpful in keeping your skin and hair looking great and healthy.

Nettle Leaves

Careful! Nettle leaves can.... help your skin in many ways! In topical applications it can help to suppress inflammation and bring relieve to dermatitis and arthritis. It has the ability to block histamine receptors, stopping cells from releasing the chemicals which could trigger allergic reactions.

This plant is chuckful of mineral such as magnesium, phosporous, silicon and lots of iron and calcium. It has astringent properties which can help in reducing the oil secretion of oily skins.

These astringent properties are also very helpful in tightening the skin after shaving.

Sage Leaf and Stem

This classic herb is a good candidate for keeping your skin looking young and healthy. Its Latin name, Salvia officinalis, comes from the Latin word 'salvare', to heal. It is a drying, astringent herb that can help to reduce or stop excessive secretion of milk, sweat, mucous or blood

The calcium and vitamin A in sage are powerful antioxidants that help protect the skin from the damage caused by free radicals. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin A is also important for overall skin health as it is essential for cell growth.
